Defining Character and Disposition.

Understanding
Disposition
In Scripture, disposition refers to the
inner qualities of mind and heart that shape our behaviour and attitudes. The
Bible acknowledges humanity’s natural inclination toward sin:
- “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great… every
inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time” (Genesis 6:5).
Yet God promises transformation:
- “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you” (Ezekiel 36:26).
Transformation
Through Christ
The New Testament emphasizes renewal:
- “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind”
(Romans 12:2).
- “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old
has passed away; behold, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
This renewal shifts our disposition from self‑centeredness
to Christ‑centeredness.
Fruits of
Godly Character
Paul outlines the fruits of the Spirit
as the hallmarks of a transformed disposition:
- Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, and self‑control
(Galatians 5:22‑23).
These virtues contrast with anger, pride, and
selfish ambition, which Scripture warns against (James 1:19‑20; Philippians
2:3).
Key
Dispositions Highlighted in Scripture
- Humility & Meekness: “Blessed
are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).
- Integrity: “The integrity of the upright guides
them” (Proverbs 11:3).
- Patience & Gentleness: “Be
completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in
love” (Ephesians 4:2).
- Wisdom & Understanding: “Who
is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good conduct”
(James 3:13).
- Endurance & Hope: “Suffering
produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces
hope” (Romans 5:3‑4).
Living Out
Godly Character
Character is not built overnight. It grows
through trials, choices, and daily surrender to God’s Spirit. Disposition
reflects whether we lean toward selfishness or toward Christ’s humility. By
fixing our hearts on Him, we embody the qualities that bring peace, unity, and
hope.
Closing
Prayer
Lord, shape my character and disposition to
reflect Your Spirit. Renew my mind, soften my heart, and help me walk in
humility, patience, and love. Amen.
Be Safe and God Bless.
Stay Tuned: Jesus meets you in your pain.
