No Fear.

Do not Fear - God gave us a Spirit of Power and Love.

Assured in Christ

Hebrews 10:26–27, 29 (NKJV) says: “For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment… Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant… and insulted the Spirit of grace?”

At first glance, these verses can feel heavy and frightening. Many believers are taught to interpret them as warnings against “wilful sins,” leading to a life of fear, guilt, and judgment-consciousness. But is this really what God intends for His children?

The Misunderstanding of Fear

Some Christians live constantly worried that every mistake will bring God’s punishment. A flat tire, an illness, or a financial setback is quickly attributed to divine judgment. This mindset produces fear, not faith.

  • Sin-conscious living: Always focused on failures instead of God’s grace.

  • Judgment-consciousness: Expecting punishment rather than trusting in Christ’s finished work.

  • God’s true desire: He wants His children to live in assurance, not anxiety.

What “Wilful Sin” Really Means

Hebrews was written to Jewish audiences - some believers, some not. In chapter 10, the warning is directed at those who had heard the truth about Jesus but continued offering animal sacrifices at the temple.

  • Rejecting Christ’s sacrifice: To “sin wilfully” here means knowing Jesus is the final sacrifice yet refusing to accept Him.

  • Insulting the Spirit of grace: Returning to old rituals was a rejection of God’s perfect gift.

  • Not about believers: Genuine Christians cannot commit this sin because they have already trusted in Christ’s finished work.

Judgment vs. Assurance

The Greek word for “judgment” in Hebrews 10:27 is krisis — condemnation and punishment. But look at Jesus’ words in John 5:24: “He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment [krisis], but has passed from death into life.”

  • Same word, different outcome: For unbelievers, krisis means condemnation. For believers, Jesus promises freedom from it.

  • Judgment fell on Christ: At Calvary, all punishment was poured out on Him.

  • Believers live in assurance: We have passed from death into life - no fear remains.

Living Without Fear

God’s Word is clear: believers are not destined for judgment but for life. Fear belongs to those who reject Christ, not those who embrace Him.

  • Remember daily that Jesus’ sacrifice is final and complete.

  • Reject fear-based teaching that robs you of assurance.

  • Walk boldly in grace, knowing you are secure in Him.

  • Rest in the truth that salvation is eternal and unshakable.

Closing Reflection

Hebrews 10 is not a warning to believers about losing salvation. It is a call to recognize the seriousness of rejecting Christ. For those who trust Him, there is no fear - only assurance, peace, and eternal life.

Pray this today: “Lord Jesus, thank You for being my perfect sacrifice. I rest in Your finished work and reject fear. Fill me with boldness, peace, and assurance that I have passed from death into life. Amen.”
