The Price of Truth – Day 3: The Cost of Deception

When Truth is Suppressed.

🕳️ The Hidden Price of a Lie

Deception often promises protection—avoiding conflict, preserving reputation, or shielding others from pain. But beneath its surface lies a steep cost. On Day 3, we examine what happens when truth is suppressed, and how deception corrodes both the soul and the psyche.

📖 Scripture’s Warning Against Deception

The Bible is clear: deception is not just a moral misstep—it’s a spiritual danger. In Proverbs 12:22, we read:

“The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.”

Lies may seem small, but they create distance—from God, from others, and from us. Adam and Eve’s deception in Eden didn’t just break a rule—it broke relationship. The serpent’s lie planted doubt, and humanity’s first sin was rooted in distorted truth.

Jesus, in contrast, declared Himself “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Truth is not optional—it’s foundational to spiritual life.

🧠 Psychological Fallout of Suppressing Truth

Modern psychology reveals that deception—especially chronic or internalized—can lead to serious mental health consequences:

  • Anxiety and guilt from maintaining falsehoods

  • Identity confusion when living a double life

  • Broken relationships due to lack of trust

  • Emotional exhaustion from hiding or pretending

Even self-deception—lying to ourselves can be damaging. It delays healing, distorts self-perception, and traps us in cycles of denial. Therapists often say, “You can’t heal what you won’t face.” Truth is the starting point for emotional recovery.

🧩 Why We Lie—and How to Stop

People lie for many reasons: fear, shame, pride, or even love. But the solution isn’t just “stop lying”—it’s cultivating environments where truth feels safe.

Here’s how to begin:

  • Practice self-awareness. Notice when you’re tempted to hide or distort.

  • Create safe spaces. Encourage honesty in your relationships.

  • Seek accountability. Invite trusted voices to speak truth into your life.

  • Embrace grace. Truth doesn’t demand perfection—it invites redemption.

🌄 Looking Ahead: The Freedom of Truth

Deception may offer temporary relief, but truth brings lasting freedom. In Day 4, we’ll explore Christ’s promise:

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” — John 8:32

Be Safe and Godspeed.
