The Mother of all Fears.

Freedom From the Fear of Death
“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” - Hebrews 2:14–15
Every human being knows what fear feels like. But the Bible reveals something deeper: behind every fear we face - fear of sickness, fear of failure, fear of danger, fear of the future - there is a root. Scripture calls it the fear of death, the mother of all fears.
Yet here is the good news: in Christ, you have been redeemed from every fear, including the fear of death itself.
Redeemed From Judgment, Punishment, and Condemnation
Many believers still live with a quiet sense of dread — a fear that God is angry with them, disappointed in them, or waiting to punish them for their failures. But the gospel declares the opposite.
Jesus took your place. Jesus bore your punishment. Jesus removed your condemnation.
The Word of God boldly proclaims:
“Christ purchased our freedom… from the curse of the Law… by becoming a curse for us.” - Galatians 3:13 (AMP)
Because of the cross, the curse of the law - including judgment, guilt, and spiritual death - no longer has authority over your life. You are redeemed, forgiven, and fully accepted by God.
Why Do Believers Still Fear Death?
If Jesus destroyed the power of death, why do so many Christians still struggle with fear?
The answer is simple: When believers doubt that all their sins were fully punished at the cross, their conscience cannot rest.
A troubled conscience always expects judgment. And where there is expectation of judgment, fear grows.
This is why the enemy works hard to keep believers uncertain about their forgiveness. If he can keep you doubting, he can keep you fearful. And if he can keep you fearful, he can keep you in bondage.
The Fear of Death Creates Other Fears
Hebrews 2:15 reveals something profound: The fear of death produces every other fear.
People who fear death often fear:
sickness
flying
driving
crowds
accidents
the future
losing loved ones
sudden tragedy
Even small symptoms can trigger anxiety because the mind imagines the worst. For some, this fear becomes so overwhelming that it affects daily life, decisions, and emotional well‑being.
But God never intended His children to live this way.
Jesus Broke the Power of Death
The cross was not only about forgiveness - it was about freedom.
Through His death, Jesus destroyed the one who held the power of death. He didn’t negotiate with the enemy. He didn’t reduce his influence. He destroyed it.
Why?
To release you from the fear of death and every bondage connected to it.
When the fear of death is removed from your heart, every other fear loses its grip. Anxiety weakens. Bondage breaks. Confidence rises. Peace returns.
This is the freedom Jesus paid for.
Anchor Yourself in This Truth
If you’ve struggled with fear - especially fear of sickness, tragedy, or death - God invites you to anchor your heart in Hebrews 2:14–15.
Let this truth settle deep within you:
Jesus died so you can live without fear. Jesus rose so you can live in freedom. Jesus reigns so you can live in peace.
The more you meditate on this truth, the more your heart becomes established in His love and finished work.
Live With Expectation, Not Fear
When God delivered Israel from Egypt, He told them to eat the Passover lamb with:
a belt on their waist
sandals on their feet
a staff in their hand
Why? Because He wanted them to expect deliverance.
In the same way, when you partake of Christ - through communion, prayer, or simply resting in His finished work - do it with expectation. Expect healing. Expect protection. Expect freedom. Expect life.
Jesus didn’t die to give you a fearful life. He died to give you an abundant one.
Final Encouragement
My friend, the fear of death is not your portion. Bondage is not your destiny. Anxiety is not your inheritance.
You belong to the One who conquered death, silenced the accuser, and broke every chain.
Walk in the freedom He purchased for you. Live boldly. Live joyfully. Live fearlessly.
You are redeemed - completely, eternally, and gloriously.
My Prayer Today
Father, today I thank You for the finished work of Jesus Christ. Thank You that through His death and resurrection, the power of fear has been broken over my life. I declare that I am no longer a slave to the fear of death, judgment, or condemnation. In Christ, I am redeemed, forgiven, and fully accepted.
Lord, settle my heart in Your truth. Where anxiety tries to rise, let Your peace take over. Where fear whispers lies, let Your Word speak louder. Where my mind imagines the worst, remind me that Jesus has already secured the best.
Today I choose to walk in the freedom You purchased for me. I choose life, confidence, and boldness. I choose to trust that You are with me, You are for me, and You surround me with Your perfect love - a love that casts out all fear.
Strengthen me, guide me and fill me with Your presence. Let my thoughts be anchored in Your promises and my steps be steady in Your grace.
Thank You, Jesus, for setting me free. Thank You for abundant life. Thank You that I can face this day without fear, because You have already overcome.
Amen.
Be safe and God Bless.
