The Essence of Grace
Stirring Opening
Romans 11:6 (NLT) declares: “And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is - free and undeserved.”
The apostle Paul’s description of grace cuts straight to the heart: it is free and undeserved. This truth dismantles the lie that we must perform to earn God’s love. Grace is not wages for effort; it is Favor for the undeserving.
Unfolding Testimony
When you truly experience this free and undeserved Favor, you stop striving to prove yourself. His love and unmerited Favor flush out wrong thinking and wrong believing, producing genuine fruit - works of righteousness that endure.
Some teachings define grace as “divine empowerment.” While grace does produce empowerment, its essence is far deeper: unmerited Favor.
Think about it: when are you most undeserving? When you have failed. And it is precisely in that moment that grace shines brightest. Grace means that even in failure, you can receive Jesus’ Favor, blessings, love, and perfect acceptance.
Spirit-Led Invitation
Be careful not to dilute grace into mere empowerment. If we reduce it to performance, the focus shifts from Jesus’ finished work to our own striving. That’s not grace - that’s burden.
Grace is God’s doing, from inception to completion. It points us back to Jesus alone, never to ourselves. Today, receive His abundant grace. See that He has already begun a good work in your life, and He alone will bring it to victory.
Reflection Questions
Where in your life do you feel most undeserving today?
How does seeing grace as unmerited Favor change your perspective?
What burdens of performance can you lay down at Jesus’ feet?
Prayer for Today
“Lord Jesus, thank You for Your grace that is free and undeserved. I confess my failures and receive Your unmerited Favor, love, and acceptance. Help me to rest in Your finished work, not my own striving. Empower me through Your grace to bear lasting fruit and walk in true righteousness. Amen.”
Be Safe and God Bless.
